What I did
As a Product Designer, I led research and design for the Paxful Android app, adapting a peer-to-peer Bitcoin marketplace built for desktop into a mobile-first experience for the Nigerian market where mobile adoption is high but traditional banking access is limited. I designed intuitive trading flows, integrating local payment methods, and building in escrow and reputation systems to establish trust in P2P trading.
How I did it, and what I used:
Started from research, not assumptions
Investigated the specific conditions driving demand: high mobile penetration but low banking access in Nigeria, and the friction of Paxful's existing desktop-oriented web flows for mobile-first users with inconsistent connectivity.Identified where the web experience broke down on mobile
Complex trade flows, heavy reliance on desktop interaction patterns, and payment methods that didn't reflect what Nigerian users actually used day to day.Designed for trust, not just usability
Peer-to-peer Bitcoin trading lives or dies on trust, so I built escrow and reputation systems directly into the interface, giving users transparent signals about counterparty reliability rather than asking them to trade blind.Adapted core functionality instead of stripping it down
Worked closely with developers and stakeholders to ensure the Android app carried over the essential capabilities of the web platform, rethought for touch, smaller screens, and unreliable connections, not a watered-down version of the desktop product.Ran workshops to align on scope
